Member Schools Approve IHSA By-Law Proposals

Illinois High School Association member schools approved all 13 of the Association's By-Law proposals for the 2010-11 school year.

The results were tallied and made official on Thursday, Jan. 6. A list of the proposals can be seen in F.Y.I.'s earlier report on these proposals (Here).

Most proposals passed with an average majority of 86%. There were two proposals that passed with three-quarters or less of the total vote: Proposal 1 (passed 312-103) requiring a school renewing a coop to provide more reasons for a cooperative, and updates the coop requirements to reflect class expansion; and Proposal 23 (passed 285-123) restricting the fall softball season to only those schools that do not offer volleyball in the fall.

This is the second straight year in which all propsals making it through the IHSA Legislative Commission were unaminously approved.

Total representation in the voting process fell to 52.9% of member schools voting, the lowest such total since records were kept track of in 1996-97.
